Economic Development Committee

The EDC of Jal is constantly working to make Jal a place you would want to come and live and work.  The EDC invites you to experience Lea County's "Southern Jewel"...

Jal, New Mexico!

Quality of Life:  Quality of life is unsurpassed.  The weather is ideal and the air is clean and clear.  The people are friendly and housing is affordable.  Property taxes are among the lowest in New Mexico.  Medical care is available during office hours at the Jal Clinic which has lab and x-ray capabilities. More about the Jal Clinic. There is also a dentist, a chiropractor, a home health agency and a massage therapist in private practice.  Jal maintains an excellent emergency medical service and volunteer fire department.

Transportation:  Jal is only an hour and ten minutes away from the Midland, Texas International Airport and an hour away from Hobbs Municipal Airport.  There is a local airport that accommodates all Turbo Prop Twins and some of the light jets.  There are no traffic jams, and travel from one end of town to the other can be accomplished within 5 minutes if you don't stop to chat with all your friends and neighbors.

Recreation:  The City of Jal has a variety of recreational opportunities.

From fishing, golf, swimming, sports activities, to annual events such as the popular July 4th Celebration and the Annual Jalarama Chili Cookoff - Car, Truck & Motorcycle Show. More about Jalarama!

Jal boasts one of the finest Senior Citizens Centers in Southeastern New Mexico located at the Woolworth Public Library.  The Senior Citizens Center participates in the State Meal Program and has home bound meal delivery.  We love our Senior Citizens and invite you to retire in Jal, where the quiet peaceful living will agree with you.

Industrial Opportunities:  The City of Jal is focusing its sights on industry and technology for the future.  The City of Jal and the Jal School District have several available building locations for various uses with room for potential development.  The City also has available improved land sites that would lend themselves to housing development, retail and service trades.  The railroad passes through Jal twice daily.  Jal has "room to grow" and we would love to talk to you about moving your business to Jal, New Mexico!
